Family get togethers weren’t the same without Mike’s mom’s potato salad. We all kind of assumed that she’d bring it to summer cookouts—but we also made sure that Verne brought her famous potato salad to middle-of-winter gatherings. It’s just plain fantastic! We all tried to duplicate the recipe. Lael was the lucky girl to get it written down, though. And as she did with Grammie Gete’s Cheesecake and Aunt Ida’s Crumb Cake, Lael made the recipes into ornaments. We keep them handy all year long as keepsakes and references.
